Celeste Fig is known as a “sugar fig” and is grown extensively in the Southeast, but can also be found in many other locations throughout the United states.   It has been identified as a cold hard fig, and depending on the source you research the USDA growing zone will show as either 6/7.

It is very good in quality as a fresh, canned or preserved product. Small to medium fig with light brown to violet skin and strawberry or rosy amber pulp.

The fruit droops at maturity and has a closed eye. This makes it highly resistant to splitting and souring.

The closed eye makes it difficult for insects to get in and its resistance to cracking makes it a great choice for areas with summer rainfall.  This makes it highly resistant to splitting and souring.  The fruit droops at maturity.

Celeste puts most of its energy into the main crop which ripens from late August into September, but will occasionally produce a breba crop.
