Gooseberries typically grown individually, while currants typically grow in clusters (similar to little grapes). Additionally gooseberries range in size from a little smaller, to a little larger than a grape depending on the species. Currants on the other hand are usually around the size of a pearl.

Technically they can be grown in any state within the US. That being said, many figs can not survive in the ground unprotected in colder climates. These figs would either have to be grown in pots and brought out of the elements in the winter, or protected/wrapped in the winter.
